With Halloween right around the corner, young Highbridge residents were asked to write about what they like best about the holiday, and what their plans were for the day. Here are some of their responses:

Jeffrey Arias: “On Halloween, I like to trick- or treat and I like to dress up as a vampire. Last year, I dressed up as a power ranger. My favorite candy is Hershey’s , gum, Starburst, Skittles, sour Skittles. My favorite costume is a vampire and a skeleton and a Dracula.”

Marius: “On Halloween, I like to go trick- or- treat. I ask my mom to buy me the scariest costume in the store. I like to see the faces of the people when they see my costume. I like going to Halloween parties, so I can scare my friends. I also enjoy the gifts the people give on Halloween, such as cookies, candy, and money.”

Michelle Adarkwa:

I like to dress-up. I like to go trick-or-treating. I like to have a party.
I like to scare people.
Have fun on Halloween night. I like to dress up like a princess. Laughing at people’s costumes.
Do fun stuff like coloring.
Having fun with my friends on Halloween.
Eating candy.

Michael Adarkwa: “On Halloween, I like to dress up as Spider man. I have a cape and mask. My colors are red and blue. I like to go trick- or treat- with my neighbors. My favorite thing to get is gum. I like Chiclets.”

Mohamed Doumbouya: “What I like to do on Halloween is to scare people with my costume. And let people come to my birthday party. People have to bring their costume.”

Anabel Nunez: “What I like about Halloween is you get to wear a costume. I like to trick- or- treat, I like to have a Halloween Party
I like to get lots of candy.”

Lorenzo Kelly: “For Halloween, I want to be Freddy. I want to get my bag filled with candy. And then I want to scare my little brother. I want a lot of candy corn. Plus I want to have a lot of lollipops, especially blowpops. I’m going to scare my other friends too. But I’m going to give my brother some if he gets a little, and save the rest for next time.”

Renee Marin: “What I will do for Halloween is I will go to Halloween parties. I also will go trick-or-treating. Get a costume from Party City. Give candy out. I’m going to be a queen for Halloween. My sister wants to be a queen vampire. Then we will have a Halloween party. My aunt will be a pop star.”

Tia Wheeler: “What I will do on Halloween is go trick- or- treating. I like Halloween because it is fun and scary. It will be fun to go everywhere for trick-or-treating. I’ll have so much candy it will take me all time. For Halloween I will be a gangster girl and I will eat sweet candy and hard candy. My little sister is going to be Supergirl and she wants a lot of candy. We just got to get our important parts of our costume.”

Jerome Johnson: “When I’m home, my parents try to scare me. I go to some Halloween parties with my sister, but she doesn’t come anymore because she’s in college. I like to eat candy like Jolly Ranchers, and jelly beans, and Skittles, and more. I think Halloween is a time for kids to go out and get candy and have fun, but Halloween is something kids should live up to.”

Joseph Llanos: “I am going to be a Power Ranger this year. I celebrate Halloween because it is fun. Last year, I was a ninja and I had a sword, but my brother broke it. We had a party though in my school and my after-school, and it was fun. I went trick-or-treating and I got a lot of candy. I had chocolate candy and peppermint. The candy I like is Baby Ruth and chocolate. My little brother likes fudge ice cream. My brother will be baby Superman.”

Jose Estevez: “Halloween is the best because you dress up. Also you can get a lot of candy. Also, you could scare a lot of people. Also, you could watch scary movies. Also, there is a lot of parties at night. Also, they throw eggs from the roof. People get scared because they don’t want to get hit by the eggs they’re throwing. Some times, I go trick or treating.”

Emelyn Ruiz: “First, I will put on my costume and take my trick-or-treat bag. I will meet up with my aunt, mom, other aunt, dad, sister and brother-in-law. We ask in the neighborhood, “Trick or Treat?” and they’ll give us candy. When I’m done, I’ll play scary games. Next, me and my family will eat the candy. Then I’ll watch my Halloween shows. I’ll watch my novella in Spanish. Finally, I’ll go to sleep, and dream of goblins, fairies, witches, and monsters. Before that, I’ll say goodnight to all my family.”

Jeremiah Garcia: “Halloween is something people celebrate. For Halloween, I’m going to stay home. I am going to watch tv and go on the computer. I am not going to be anything for Halloween. I don’t celebreate Halloween. On Halloween, people throw eggs. People shoot other people on Halloween. Halloween is a scary day to me because of all the designs.”
